Five paragraph essay lesson introduction

The five paragraph essay is the basic essay format you will use throughout your school career. Since we already know how to write a paragraph using a simple format, we will apply the same rules to write an essay using different types of paragraphs. Paragraph 1- The Introductory Paragraph.

It is in this paragraph that you will need to GRAB the attention of your reader. The easiest way to do that is with your first sentence. First, the students will recieve an index card with "Bull" or "Bear" on the front. Student pairs will receive essay cards with paragraphs. Students will put the essay cards in order and paper clip them.

Students will then switch from their partner to a partner that is on the other team. For example, a "Bull" would now meet with a "Bear.

Teaching Students How to Write an Introduction Paragraph

They answer and discuss the questions on the back of the card. Time goal: 5 -7 minutes. Students return to their seats and are presented with a graphic organizer. We review the essay question.

I present the graphic organizer and show the example my filled out graphic organizer. Time goal: 5 - 7 minutes. Students organize the essay cards in the shape of the graphic organizer presented.

Emphasize specific reasons. Have students complete the following chart to help them with the form and reasons.
